If you would like to view the space in person. Hackland hosts weekly public open evenings,
every Thursday from 6.00pm - 7.00pm. We suggest attending a tour of Hackland,
before signing up to become a member.
Inductions for tools and Hackland equipment are also run during these Thursday open evenings. Hackland membership fees are $20 per week, per person.

Our Guiding Principles
Safety
We make awesome tools accessible to members and to the public. This means that members hold a significant responsibility. Both for themselves and for other Hackland members well-being. Please make sure that members using the space are aware of the work that you are doing. At all times. And allow them plenty of opportunities to equip themselves in the appropriate safety gear.
Non Exclusivity
We encourage members to use the space to run community events. These events must be open to anyone who is interested in being involved. And cannot be charged for. We believe at Hackland that knowledge is free. And that our community events, should reflect this.
Consensus Protocol
Disagreement is inevitable, when working in a team. It is important for us, however, to have discussions and to make decisions as a united group. Doing what is best for the Hackland community as a whole. We believe strongly that the voice of the few, are equal to the voice of the many. And we do not govern by mob rule.
Creativity Encouraged
All members are permitted ( and encouraged ) to make changes to the Hackland space. To create new areas and to explore new things. We call this the “6 hour rule”. If what you do, can be undone, in 6 hours or less. Then no permission is necessary, to enact your changes.
If your idea is longer then 6 hours to implement, and to de-construct. Then other Hackland members are permitted and encouraged to offer further opinions or solutions.
Please check out our constitution for more information.
Below, are a few more things to be mindful of. Covered in the linked constitution, above.
Temporary Accomodation
Hackland is not a place for emergency accomodation. No one should be spending the night, or sleeping in the space. This may change in the future by method of consensus. But as it currently stands, please respect this guiding principle.
Commercial Use and Prototyping
A ‘Hackspace’ is a great place to test new ideas. Prototype first versions of projects. And maybe even bootstrap the beginnings of a business. But after the initial ideas and concepting phase. Hackland prefers the manufacturing and production of these commercial grade projects to be initiated, elsewhere.
Commercial level business production can put a strain on other members. And drain valuable resources, intended for use by the wider Hackland community.
